VALE - Russell (Russ) Edmonds
It is with great sadness that we advise that our very own loveable larrikin and ex-Greenkeeper Russ (Rowdy) Edmonds passed away early hours yesterday (Wednesday 21 October) at Bethesda Hospital after fighting an illness.
Morley Noranda Rec Club and the Morley Bowling Club will miss one of its colourful characters.
Those betting machines won't know what's hit them but I believe the 'main man upstairs' has just got himself a great Bookie!!
A Private Cremation to take place.
A big thank you to Ken Perks and Stiks for giving up their time to run the three coaching clinics which were held over the past three Wednesdays.
Also thank you to the members who took the time out to support Ken and Stiks who gave up their time to come down and try and make our club stronger by producing better bowlers.
You guys 'rock'!!
Note: If anyone is interested, Ken will set up some drills and skills out on the green this Wednesday night 28 October commencing at 4pm.
Pennant Bowls – a message from the Treasurer
Pennant competitions start on Tuesday 20th October for the ladies, and Saturday 24th and Thursday 29th October for the men.
This means that all players start paying match fees for every game, both home and away.
For Tuesday ladies that is $5 each; Friday night ladies $6 each, Thursday men $7 each, and Saturday ladies and men $8 each (including $1 for the jackpot).
I make up plastic money bags for each division and team, and these are put in the pigeon holes underneath both the ladies and men’s team boards, with the scorecards.
Each team is responsible for collecting the fees from the four players on your rink (for the men, the seconds do this) and then put the sealed money bag into the locked green fees box.
Bearing in mind that we have quite a few new players, if they happen to be playing second then we ask other members of that rink to ‘show them the ropes’.
It’s a big help to me if everyone does the right thing
And….we will have drink tickets for the team with the biggest winning margin in each division plus individually wrapped sandwiches for Thursday and Saturday players.
On Saturday’s after pennants we hold a fines session, usually from about 6pm to 6.30pm. We ask you to make an effort to stay back for this as it does create a lot of humour.
To get new players into the spirit of things, you will all be fined $1 for your first game and there is an automatic fine of $1 for any wrong bias. If you can’t stay then please give your money to fines master, Bob Geikie – if you don’t know him just ask!
And finally, I wish you all an enjoyable bowling season for 2020/21.
